I am Reader in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, Norfolk. I also co-convene the MA in Prose Fiction at UEA. The MA is widely acknolwedged to be the best Masters of its kind in the UK, and one of the top programmes in the world. In 2011 UEA’s Creative Writing programme was awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, the UK’s most prestigious higher education award, in recognition of its continuing excellence in delivering innovative courses at a world-class level. Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA)
Photographer Diego Ferrari and I are teaching a weekend + Friday evening course, 'City Stories: A Photography and Creative Writing Course' in conjunction with RIBA on May 19-21 2017. The course is aimed at those interested in architecture and the urban environment, and will allow participants to learn photographic techniques and produce new work about the city using words and photographs. We will focus on RIBA's major exhibition this spring on James Stirling and Mies van der Rohe's designs for No. 1 Poultry in the City. For more information click here.
Creative Writing and Photography in London Weekend short courses - Central London
Diego Ferrari and I teach a twice-yearly innovative course in writing and photography at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, looking at ways to combine the two, creating text for photo-essays, and illustrated essays and narratives. University of the Western Cape and Rhodes University, South Africa
In 2013 I was AW Mellon Foundation Visiting Scholar at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. I will also teach for a week at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, also funded by the Andrew W Mellon Foundation.
